Understanding and controlling dynamic follow-up questions

After answering, the chatbot suggests relevant follow-up questions — a switch under Chatbot → Configuration controls whether this is active.

After every answer, your chatbot can suggest up to two topically relevant follow-up questions as buttons that a visitor might ask next. Whether this happens is controlled by the "Dynamic follow-up questions" switch under Chatbot → Configuration. The feature is enabled by default. The setting applies per tenant and is saved.

Step by step

  1. Find the switchIn the dashboard open Chatbot → Configuration. There you will find the "Dynamic follow-up questions" switch.
  2. Set the behaviorWhen the switch is ON (default), the chatbot suggests up to two relevant follow-up questions as buttons after its answer. When OFF, no follow-up questions are suggested.
  3. Save and observeThe setting is saved per tenant. Then run a test conversation and observe whether follow-up questions appear or not.
  4. Maintain your knowledge baseWhen the feature is enabled, suggestions are based on the conversation context and your knowledge base — a well-maintained knowledge base therefore improves the relevance of the suggested follow-up questions.

Expected result

When the switch is enabled, visitors receive relevant follow-up questions as buttons after answers, which they can ask with one click; when disabled, no follow-up questions are suggested.

Common error cases

I want to turn off the follow-up question suggestions.

Cause: The "Dynamic follow-up questions" switch is set to ON.

Resolution: Open Chatbot → Configuration and set the "Dynamic follow-up questions" switch to OFF.

No follow-up questions are suggested even though I expect them.

Cause: Either the switch is OFF or the conversation context offers no meaningful follow-up questions.

Resolution: Check under Chatbot → Configuration whether the switch is ON, and maintain your knowledge base so that suitable follow-up questions can be derived.

During appointment booking, the chatbot asks several mandatory questions one after another (e.g. vehicle, name, email) — is this the same feature?

Cause: No, this is a separate mechanism for structured data collection during appointment bookings and forms.

Resolution: See the "Create your own forms in the chatbot" article in the "Forms" category.
